The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Centre (‘ROLAC’) has hosted a seminar on ‘the role of academia in fighting corruption’ as part of a launch ceremony for a new LLM in Corruption, Law and Governance offered by the University of Sussex in Doha.
Professor Michael Davis, Vice Chancellor of Sussex University, said that he was “delighted” to be offering the programme in Doha and hoped that it would present as “a model for other academic institutions in the world”.
Andrew Sanders, Head of the School of Law, Politics and Sociology at Sussex University explained that the programme is based upon three broad modules- Nature of Corruption, Financial Crimes and Business Crimes. Mr. Sanders observed that “studying the nature of corruption and building organizations based on transparency is one of the key features of the LLM.”
H.E. Dr Ali Bin Fetais Al Marri, Attorney General of Qatar and the President of the Board of Trustees at the ROLAC was in attendance at the event.
The LLM is to be taught by Sussex University faculty at the ROLAC in Doha. ROLAC is a not-for-profit organisation, established in 2013 by the Emir of Qatar.
