Two Workshops for Judges and Prosecutors Held

May 30 2016
Doha, 29 May – QNA: The Centre for Legal and Judicial Studies has concluded two specialised workshops, held in collaboration with the Supreme Council of the Judiciary and Public Prosecution.

Aimed at judges, the first workshop, “Traditions and Jurisprudence”, compared legal procedures in Qatari courts to those in the United States in terms of writing provisions, style and content, as well as facts and laws. It also examined the implementation of judicial work, both inside and outside the courtroom, in order to promote the highest degree of efficiency, fairness and transparency expected of judges, both from litigants and the general public.

The second workshop “Professional Practices of Public Prosecution to Aim to Win Legal Cases”, targeted members of the prosecution and was organised in collaboration with BARBRI International Training Centre. It was held on the side-lines of the “Training on Pleadings and Writing Legal Notes” course, lectured by judge Gerald Lebovits, President of the Supreme Court in New York, USA and law professor at Columbia University.
The workshop included a presentation comparing the role of prosecutors in Qatar and the United States, highlighting the role of Qatari Public Prosecution in criminal investigations and the prosecution of offenders. It addressed the role of the Office of the Public Prosecutor in the Court of First Instance and Court of Appeal. The session also included discussion of measures to enhance both the role of the Office of the Public Prosecutors, and the skills of its affiliates in dealing with forensic science as well as the consideration of morality during the application of criminal law (in accordance with the Qatari Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure).
