Summary

In an appeal case before the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Tribunal, Sharq Insurance LLC contested a Determination by the QFC Employment Standards Office. The Determination found that Sharq Insurance breached employment regulations and the contract of a former employee by failing to pay full salary and benefits from 17 March to 13 September 2020. The employee was stranded in India due to COVID-19 travel restrictions but continued to work remotely. Sharq Insurance argued their actions were fair and within regulations, citing limited remote work capacity. The Tribunal reviewed submissions and decided to resolve the matter without a hearing.
