Session on “Training on Pleadings and Legal Literacy” Concludes

The Ministry of Justice’s Legal and Judicial Studies Centre and the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) concluded a 2-week training session on the “Techniques of Pleadings and Legal Literacy” organised in cooperation with BARBRI International Training Centre. Legal professionals from various government agencies and law firms across the country attended the session.

The training addressed important topics with the aim of developing and improving participants’ legal know-how and communication skills in legal English, and to enhance their perceptions on recent international legal developments.
 
The session also aimed to increase and educate participants on identifying clients’ legal needs. It covered litigation procedures as per common law and the interpretation of the article on jurisprudence and regulations. It also covered best practices in dealing with certified English common law legal counsels and helped develop participants’ pleading skills.
 
In his concluding remarks, QICDRC judge Dr Hassan Al-Sayed, reiterated the importance of the training for participants to develop their skillset and professionalism. He also thanked the Ministry of Justice and QICDRC for providing such an opportunity. Dr Al-Sayed also mentioned that the session was organised with the help of BARBRI International Training Centre, a prestigious organisation with a proven record in legal trainings and pleadings.
 
Ms Fatima Abdulaziz Bilal, Director of the Legal and Judicial Studies Centre ,expressed her thanks and appreciation for the efforts put together by the lecturer and participants during the session. She also welcomed participants’ cooperation and commitment to seek, develop and attain as much knowledge and skills as possible during the training. She then highlighted that the success of this training will definitely contribute to upgrading Qatar’s and the region’s legal and technical training field. Ms Bilal went on to express her thanks and appreciation to His Excellency the Minister of Justice, and QICDRC Chief Executive Officer for their determination to bring the best legal training to Qatar. She concluded by congratulating participants for successfully completing the training and reminded them of the benefits they have reaped that will further contribute to their professional development.
 
Ms Nada Jassim Abdul-Jabbar, Assistant Director of the Judicial Studies Training Centre applauded the training and the strenuous efforts made to put it together. She said that she hopes participants benefited from this opportunity, which brought one of the finest training experts in various areas of law to Qatar. Ms Jassim also said that that this training session is the first step of an extensive training programme put together by the Legal and Judicial Studies Centre, implemented under the support of His Excellency the Minister, to attract international experts to prepare and qualify Qatari trainers and enrich legal courses organised by the Centre in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
 
Participants expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the Ministry of Justice and QICDRC for organising this session in collaboration with BARBRI International Training Centre. They reiterated the value of such events and the positive impact it has on strengthening their legal skills and enriching their experiences and knowledge.
 
One of the many participants, Sheikh Suhaim bin Khaled Al-Thani said that he greatly benefited from the various topics discussed by a reputable lecturer; a feeling shared by his classmates. He also highly recommended fellow legal professionals to attend the next training session. He concluded by saying he hopes to see more tailored training sessions take place in Qatar.
 
Mr Nawaf Al-Amari, another participant, explained that the session covered the most important qualities lawyers must possess, such as clarity and the ability to explain complex legal terms and contexts easily, as well as other skills related to the procedural work of lawyers, judges and other court officers.
 
Ms Randa Shiblack commented on how the session explained the necessity for lawyers to possess impeccable behaviour and ethics, along with a good understanding of the cases.
 
For Mr Mohammed Ahmed Aoodah, a benefit of the session was that it enabled him to understand the mechanisms of legal drafting and the differences between legal drafting and academic writing. He explained that the session also exposed participants to the formulation of laws and procedures in addition to working in American courts.
 
For Mr Sharif Sweilim, despite his long work experience in legal pleadings and law, the training had given him added value in the fields of legal writing and characteristics: skills that should be possessed by lawyers and legal councils to improve the level of legal drafting of documents and contracts.
