First Enforcement of Qatar International Court Judgment in Doha

November 09 2016
Doha, 08 November 2016: In a landmark case, the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) announced that it has successfully enforced a judgment in case no 6 of 2016.

The Court of First Instance presided by Justices Robertson, Al Sayed and Kirkham, had found in favour of the Claimant and ordered the Defendant to pay QAR 2,752,000, plus the Claimant’s reasonable legal costs, which were to be assessed by the Registrar. The Defendant failed to comply and the Court presided by Justice Rashid Al Badr directed the Qatar Central Bank to freeze accounts held in Qatar by the Defendant up to the value of the judgment debt.

This case reinforces the confidence of both the local and international communities in the QICDRC, the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC)’s legal arm.

Commenting on the judgment, Faisal Al-Sahouti, QICDRC Chief Executive Officer said: “This judgment acts as a reassurance for people doing business in Qatar and the region and is an important development that reiterates the QFC’s strong and transparent legal environment.”
