Message from the President
2022 was a year of transition in which we all very slowly nudged away from full Covid-19 status, finding a middle ground. The Court and Regulatory Tribunal was no different. However, I am pleased to report that despite all the difficulties caused by the Pandemic, the Court is functioning with great efficiency.
What is particularly gratifying is the success of some recent innovations. By way of example, a number of cases have been allocated to the Small Claims track of the First Instance Circuit of the Court and have progressed very smoothly, with the most efficient proceeding to judgment less than one month after it was issued by the Registrar. The need for a modern court to provide swift and cost-effective justice to all of its users is pressing and do have done so successfully a number of times in the first year of being of the service bodes very well for the future.
Last year saw the handing down of judgments in a variety of areas, amply demonstrating the breadth of the Court’s expertise, from shareholder disputes to misrepresentation, from fiduciaries to insolvency, and from tax to money laundering. With a general year-on-year increase in our workload, I envisage further diversity of issues to come before the Court, issues in relation to which our superb panel of judges are amply equipped to deal.
